It is created to provide improved properties of corrosion resistance in moderate to higher concentric environments. It is best to use in the process streams that contain concentric chemicals such as halides, chlorides, nitric acids, acetic acids, phosphoric acids, and other acids. The 316L is the down carbon version of 316 grades also it has some composition of nitrogen to meet the desired mechanical properties. 316L resists atmospheric corrosion in reducing to moderate environments. It works greatly in the sea waters too. It has excellent resistivity to intergranular corrosion even if it is welded. Stainless Steel 316L has excellent toughness and strength at down temperatures too.
Stainless Steel 316L Sheets/ Plates manufacturing details: Stainless Steel 316L Sheets/ Plates are weldable and can be processed from the standard fabrication operations. The hot working temperature is 1700 deg F to 2200 deg F. to attain maximum properties these sheets and plates are processed from the annealing process. However, it dominates the structure of alloy and changes it to the non-magnetic. These are quenched and cooled by other means after the hot working operation.
This alloy is readily formable with cold working operations too. It changes the structure and turns into magnetic. Also, it will increase the hardness and strength without embrittlement. Best machining results are attained by heavier feeds. Low speeds, sufficient lubrication and power tooling.
